Judge orders family to remove chickens
A family has 10 days to remove chickens from their backyard after a judge has ruled against them.
Monday, a Broward County judge ordered the Kohn family to get their chickens out of their backyard.
The Einhorn family and the Kohn family met at the Broward County courtroom over a dispute that has been going on for two years. Steve Kohn has several chickens in his backyard that he considers pets, and his family of 12 eat their eggs. But the Einhorns are annoyed and wanted the chickens removed for good.
The Einhorns brought on a nuisance lawsuit against the Kohns. They took pictures and videos of the chickens, which they said make noise at all hours of the day and night.
"Today is a great day," Sandra Einhorn said. "We're certainly relieved that this will be over. We really hope that this time our neighbors will respect the decision of the court and comply with the ruling."
Steve Kohn said, "There's been so many lies and false reports done by the neighbor that it's shocking and disappointing that when presented with all of that evidence, the judge will still decide to believe them, in the end."
Kohn said he will appeal the judge's decision, asking that the chickens be allowed to remain on his property for the duration of the appeal process. There is also a federal lawsuit being filed on his behalf by HUD against the City of Hollywood. Steve said the City has targeted him and his family and the way they live illegally.
