Water. Artesian Wells.

Stanley Martins Frasão

We know that several house condominiums get their water from artesian wells, and that is a way to decreases the monthly regular expenses. Residential and commercial proprietors also use such methods. In each state in the federation there are laws for the extraction of water from artesian aquifers for final consumption or input in productive processes. Any mismanagement of water, be it underground or not, generates public health problems, as well as problems for the fauna and flora, which may compromise the availability of water. Water is a formerly abundant natural resource that must be preserved for this and future generations.

World Government – necessary and inevitable

Francisco César Pinheiro

The title of the present essay might provoke skeptical laughter in the arena of International Public Law and among experienced scholars of international relations. But they are intellectuals, who at present hold the attention of only a small number of sophisticated readers with their academic writings. If the need and urgency argued here prove to be true, they will be the voluntary or involuntary "obstetricians" of a new world order. The new world "baby" is being announced via nausea, strange "famines" and other alterations in the behavior of old mother Earth, who is a bit old for new concepts and worn out with ideological illusions, the discoverers of dynamite, endless conflicts, uncertainties and the very concrete physical suffering of her less favored children.

A tribute to the bicentenary of Abraham Lincoln on Law Day

Jayme Vita Roso

On Lincoln there is a profusion of books, theses, articles, essays, notes, films, DVDs and every imaginable product of the intelligence that is known on a specific character who exceeds the limits and the parameters of the specially gifted. On my latest visit to the State of Illinois, the State Bar of which I have been an associated member for over thirty five years (today I am considered one of the Privileged Members), I stayed on for another three days to gather relevant data on Lincoln with the view to one day summarizing it. Which is what I now do! Ever keen for this synthesis, adopted child of those who confront space.

Racism, Obama and World Government

Francisco Cesar Pinheiro Rodrigues

If there is a politician I respect, it is Barack Obama. Not only due to the fact that he attained, in an honorable manner, the presidency of the most powerful nation in the world, but also because he has partially broken down the racial prejudice that still restlessly lingers in the deepest layers of white American society. As here one is dealing with a prejudice related to skin color (it is not the case, as in the example of anti-Semitism, of white against white), the reaction against a man of dark-colored skin has, in my opinion, an instinctive, even biological component, its eradication being slower and more difficult.

Sustainability Stock Exchange - A new market for the billion worth market of equilibrium

Antonio Otero

Sustainability, by definition, represents every human enterprise systematically comprehending at least four characteristics: ecologically correct, economically feasible, socially fair and culturally accepted. Nowadays any new project worth its name has imbedded in it the sustainability concept. Both government actions and best enterprise practices have adopted the virtuous sustainable cycle for the production of goods and services utilizing recycled materials and renewable energy, considering the respect to society and the market where they operate as an authentic mission.

Parliamentary Inquiry Commission of the Penitentiary System

Stanley Martins Frasão

Recently I have had the opportunity to watch the video presented by the bachelor in Law, Vivian Azevedo Rodrigues, presented on the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) of the Brazilian Penitentiary System, depicting its negative situation and criticizing it. The CPI was created with the goal of investigating the reality of the penitentiary system, focusing on the overpopulation of the detention centers, the economic and social costs established, the permanence of the prisoners who have already finished their term, the violence inside the institutions of the prison system, the corruption, organized crime and its ramifications in the prison facilities, and to seek solutions for the effective implementation of the Penal Law.

The Idealism of Oscar Niemeyer

Francisco Cesar Pinheiro Rodrigues

The left-wing monthly magazine “Caros Amigos”, which I have only just read, but dates from July 2006, published an extensive and intelligent interview with the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer, considered, almost unanimously, to be a genius in his profession. As everyone knows, Niemeyer is a communist who has never attempted to conceal his convictions. These convictions are vigorously and fearlessly defended (he is one of the few people with the courage to stand up for Stalin), it being impossible to doubt his sincerity. He says what he thinks.
